Bamboo Wickerworks of Phanat Nihkom was evolved from local wisdom and native creativity. The district has legendary of weaving skills from Thai, Lao, and Chinese heritage craftsman. Aside from farming, villagers make variety of bamboo housewares and introduce bamboo products to local vendors and markets. In 1978, the project of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s SUPPORT Foundation reached Phanat Nikhom to preserve weaving technique skills. The objectives aim to conserve extraordinary folk arts and crafts passing on generations and to promote better quality of life. Mrs. Pranee Borriboon, as wife of the town’s mayor, embraced the project and established weaving workshop at her own residence. She put all her effort into searching out and gathering up the community’s traditional expertise in wicker-weaving.Present, The project under her son management, Komkrit has continuously promoted talented artisans and developed exquisite bamboo wickerwork. The Traditional Bamboo Handicraft Center opens for visitors to explore the artistic delicacy of weaving process and the beauty of bamboo craft.
